Amado

Amado is bursting at the seams with things to do and places to see. For decades Amado and its ranches were a secret getaway for the Hollywood crowd who came here to relax.

The Amado Territory offers two restaurants and a delightful B&B

Nestled in the Santa Cruz River Valley, the picturesque beauty of Amado is a paradise for birdwatchers, nature-lovers, and city folk alike. The wide range of ecosystems extend from rugged peaks and pine forests of the Santa Rita mountains, named for the patroness of impossible causes, and spring fed canyons to the Sonoran desert and Santa Cruz River Valley.

In addition to unique and unusual flora there is abundant wildlife and the area supports hundreds of species of birds-dazzling flycatchers, hawks, eagles, waterbirds, and those flying jewels, the Rufous, Costas, Broadbill, Annas, and Black-chinned hummingbirds.

From Amado, visit the Whipple Observatory in the Santa Rita Mountains. Enjoy exhibits on astronomy, natural science, and cultural history. There is also an outdoor patio with the Native American petroglyphs discovered on site, desert flora, and stunning views of the surrounding Santa Rita Mountains. Please call before you go 520.670.5707.

The Cow Palace is a long-time favorite lunch and dinner spot!

A stage stop along the route that ran from Nogales to Arivaca to Tucson, Amado was the halfway station (the building still stands). Today it is a respite from hectic lives-a look at the past with modern conveniences.

And the relaxing comfort of Amado is evident at the Amado Territory Inn bed and breakfast and the Rex Ranch that pampers and entertains guests. Shoppers will find unique offerings in the shops at the Amado Territory Ranch.

Good food is everywhere! Enjoy a delightful lunch at the Amado Café or a gourmet dinner at the Rex Ranch. For something different, the Cow Palace offers a piano sing along at dinner and the Longhorn Grill boasts nightly specials that are terrific!
